Paying MSRP
If sales are really lagging for both companies, who do you think really wants to have my business?
End of model year is best time for getting rock bottom pricing, if that is what you want/need. But, try this anyway, regardless:
What I did on my '07, July 1 '07:
Called five dealers (that were within about 50 miles). Found out what they had for colors in the model I wanted. Then asked what their lowest pricing was for the BLACK or the one they had the most of.
On the phone they aren't going to tel you their rock bottom, they will say "we'll match any price" or, "We can talk below MSRP, etc. If they say the price is the price, or strictly MSRP, don't go there for a price break.
Even if they don't say "plus Shipping, setup and/or admin" , then ask if there is any added cost for ANYTHING, like shipping , setup, etc.
If they have an added accesory on the bike you wantlike anti-theft, don't expect to pay less for that accessory. You could say, "but I didn't really want that, here's what I'll pay for that (reduce by about 15%)...worth a try (but you don't get into this on the phone)
Be sure to find out how many of each color they have (just be cool, they'll tell you.... I won't be SO devious as to suggestwhat you can say if they ask why...there's always an answer). Do all this anonomously on the phone so that when you go in they don't know you've already got all that figured out. But, if you like the sounds of the salesperson, often good to ask when he/she is in and see them. Same for if you don't like sounds, call in before you go in and get other names, then ask for the other name when you go in.
Also, you doNOT want
them to know that you have a particular color you want.
Then go in...they will ask you what color you want (then usuallythey'll emphacize that they only have one or a few left). So,tell them you want the color that they have the most of. If you have cash, bring a certified check made out to you for MSRP less freight less admin then LESS $ 2500.
Show them the check then telll them you are buying TODAY
and say, " CAN you see your way fit to sell if for this price??" (the chek amount. If you don't have a check , or can't say you have availaiblity on your credit card for a purchase

then you are financing it.....don't mention that, just skip the bit about
how you are paying for it. Saying that you will do the deal right there and then is good leverage. If they ask if you will finance it, tell them yes, your credit is excellent (who really knows what excellent credit today is and they are getting a piece of the action which
may be more (if they share in the interest rate revenue) if your credit is not excellent)
Eithe they say yes, or no. If no, just calmly do a body language that indicates you are about to leave (something subtle like put your hat, coat on , remote start your car or bike,
pull a paper bag out and puke in it,
have your woman walk out on cue (hey guys, a little humor here, but some practical moves too). . then
ask what is the lowest they could do it for?
Now, here's the rub..... if you ask them to write that down, then that indicates to them that you are going elsewhere with their price: sometimes good, sometimes bad.....so, be ready if the guy is going to be a little pissy and he says "so you can take it to another dealer??" CALMLY say, "yes, you have given me your best price, wouldn't you do the same and besides, there is a chance that your
price will be best and you'll be back"(yeh, that may sound nieve, but that's what you want him to believe you are), and you are now setting up the process for "stage

I bought my first bike on midlife move. I knew what I wanted to spend and ended with my first Harley. It was sportster and I bought it before closing and had it delivered free.
The second bike a year later I knew what to ask for and went before closing and got to test ride another model than what I bought just to be sure I was getting the bikeI liked. I bought the Fatboy after they closed so they kept the service open late to prep the bike and add the accesories.
How to save up to $ 2500 below MSRP (and not pay shipping/setup/admin):
