Mine is an '07, and I have the correct service manual. Mine have the black plastic rear of the connector housing and there is a rubber seal I would guess to insure that they are watertight. I may be mistaken that the seal is black, it may be orange. There is no flip up secondary lock on mine. there is on the headlight connector, but not the control harness connectors. If I mislead you with my experience in doing mine I apologize.
I dont feel the need to follow Scotty's suggestion to d/l his instructions........as I said,I have the service manual and mine are done. I wish you success doing yours.
Good luck!
Service manual is all good but the picture for the molex connectors are from the electrical diagnostics manual that you obviously do not have.
I would suggest buying it before giving information out that can damage peoples electrical connectors.
The pins cannot come out of there holes no matter what size darning needle you used until the primary lock is lifted up.
I think you ar thinking of the outside latch.
I gave information that worked for me with no damage to my connectors. It was a simple procedure.I was trying to help a fellow out. I guess I should consider myself lucky I got mine done without the electrical diagnostics manualwhich is apparantly the bible for simple connectors.
Ronyd....... good luck with your connectors, you have all the help you need, you certainly don't need my flawed advice.
mojo, if I remember correctly, my first reaction was to release the clips on the black connector, and pull it out from the male connector. I was able to release the clips, but pulling on the black connector did not move much at all. Almost like the pin secondary lock base was holding it from being pulled.
I wish I had a connector that I could dissassemble before doing this.
All set guys. Left handlebar connector has 8 wires. Used small needle nose pliers to lift secondary lock, small paper clip to release pins, 10 minutes or so.
Right handlebar connector has 6 wires. Same procedure, and a piece of cake. I have constructed some drawings with PowerPoint that show pin number with
wire color. I can post them if needed....
Next will be removing the hand controls... I'm sure I'll be asking some questions about that.. Need to do some chores (like NorthEast leave raking, god help me!!)...
