Hey King Kong Sportster, I could have written the first half of your post. I kept my 1200 Custom for about four months before I traded it in on a Heritage Classic. I lost money on the deal, but well worth it.
I had bought a new one in 95, had it for 2 years then got out of riding until buying the 08, I didn't even consider anything else cause the overall styling and the improvements sold me on it
I was going write a comment, but it's already been said. Just take a look atmy smile.btw, mines an 02. Theres plenty oflow milage, garage kept, not a scratch, outstanding bikes out there... just look around. I paid $12,000 last year and it just had a 10K service. The price was good then, I dont know about now, I dont really care, I'm happy all around.
Too bad I will have to be stuck with my sportster for at least another 2 years. Since I just purchased it earlier this year, I dont have much equity in the bike and it would be fool hearted of me to trade it in now. But at least I came away knowing what my next motorcycle will be sure. For now I will just continue to dream and continue to second guess my decision to buy the sporstster in the first place[sm=smiley6.gif]
sorry for long post
Yeah...OK. It's too late now man. You shouldhave never rode the Heritage. Let us know when you trade the sporty.
Run an ad in your local motorcycle trader or recycler. Craigslist.org or even ebay. There's always someone that wants a Sporty and doesn't want to hassle with the dealers.
Now that you've ridden one, you're never going to get it out of your mind every time you saddle up on that Sporty. If you want it, you'll find a way to get it.
I understand your pain -
Last May I bought a HD orange and black Nightster after 30 years without a bike. I absolutely loved the look of the bike and thought it would be perfect. It was. However, it turned out that my wife decided that she liked to ride too. It was too crowded and not enough rear suspension travel to be comfortable. I put 1600 miles on it before I went back to the dealer and traded it on an 08 Deluxe. Although I lost some money, I am much more comfortable riding and I've put about another 2400 miles on it. As an aside, there was a used 05 softail springer with about 1200 miles on it at the dealer that I almost went for as it has "collectability" and was also gorgeous. In the end, the 96ci, warranty, and six speed won out. My riding bud has an 07 Heritage - it's a beautiful bike. If you can swing it bite the bullet. Make believe that you blew a couple of grand on chrome or accessories and that will make losing some money a little more easier to rationalize.
I wish I could have kept the Nightster too - just to rip around solo once in awhile. My son bought a black and silver denim Nightster just about the time I was trading and made out real well inheriting my nealy new SE AC, Rush slipons and PCIII when I traded mine in. I guess I'll have to thrash his a little next spring.
