Default Night Train or Fat Boy

In the next couple of months I plan to buy another harley. I am stuck between the Fat Boy and Night Train. Both appeal to me in different ways and I decided to turn to this forum for input from owners on likes, dislikes, advantages or disadvantages to either. As far as I go, I grew up on dirt bikes and moved to road bikes as soon as I was able (16 years old). I have ridden on and off again for the last 25 years. My last motorcycle was a 99 Fat Boy (attached) but I had to get rid of it in late 2002 - don't ask. Now, 5 years later I am ready to ride again. I will ride about 6,000 miles a year - commuting (40 miles p/day round trip) and a couple long trips a year and some long weekend rides in the mountains. The wife doesn't ride so it will just be me.

Any feedback would be appreciated.... and yah, I know I never should have let the 99 go.

PB

My fatboy with seat removed. I love the radial tires. 7500 miles in 3.5 months

I have a 99 Train, lowered and modified like crazy. Sorry no pictures, too much trouble. Also have a 04 RG, and 04 Dyna. With the amount of daily riding, 40 or more miles, go with the FB. More comfortable for the longer rides.

I have ridden from Phoenix to Daytona on the Train for Bikeweek, man was my back and *** sore. Also ridden the RG to Daytona, much better.

Go with what you really want, better yet, visit the stealer and rent a Train.

Well permabuzz, you had a Fatty before, so there was something that you like about. I was thinking about a NT prior to deciding on the FB. I liked the blacked out look, handle bars and forward controls of the NT. But then I thought that I could pretty much change the FB to be similar to a NT, but a beefier one. I like the look of a bigger front tire. By adding a removable windshield and removable saddlebags, you can turn it into a touring bike and with them removed a cruiser. So the FB won me over. Oh and that was a nice '99 FB you had there, to bad you had to let it go, but things happen. Good to see you are thinking about replacing it with another one with a bigger engine and rear tire. Good luck with your problem of deciding which one to buy. I have no regrets with my choice.

For the cost, I'd go with a Road King. You can load it up or strip it down. Any softail guys like the look of mine?

If your thinking fatboy, you might want to look at the Heritage also, comes with removeable windshield and saddlebags. I have the night train and it's a lot of fun. In the end though, don't listen to us, get what you like.

I recently did a 1400(+) mile round trip on my Train... coulda went further without any discomfort at all~ I credit most of that to the Mustang seat I replaced the stock seat with~ Although...
I have also been lookin hard at the FatBoy lately, myself~ Mostly because of my size~ I'm 6' and a good duece and half in the weight departmeny~ Sittin on the Train is comforatable for me, but my big **** really dwarfs the Train underneath me~ As much as I love my Train, if I was to do it over.. I'd most likely go with the FatBoy~ [sm=burnout.gif]

Like others have suggested, you bought your 99 Fatboy for a reason. I'd stay with that.

PS: Did you have your 99 raised? It looks like its sitting way high; high enough to be 4x4.
