Default Progressive Fork Springs

Has anyone DIY'd these? How long did it take you? PITA or reasonably simple? Special tools needed?

Just watch out when you take off the caps!
Also be sure to unweight the wheel.

I'm going to be doing this on the Deuce. Looking over the procedure it seems pretty straight forward. Concerns I had were with the dust caps and "required" special tool for the fork seals when putting it back together. The dust cap instructions are talking about using a block of wood in the dust cap gap and tapping to get it loose. But the tubes are still together at that point so having trouble visualizing what they are talking about. Then, on assy, they want me to use some special tool to put the seals back on in the step immediately before putting the dust cap back on.

Oh yeah...do I really need to take the tubes out of the trees? Seems to me I could leave them clamped on there assuming the bars weren't in the way.

The bike will have less than 50 miles on it when these are done. Change the oil anyway? Is there a different oil other than HD recommended I should use for the Progressive setup or will HD oil do the job? Do I put Syn3 in there now?

It also depends on which Softail you own. If you have an FL there'sall of the uppersheet metal & headlight bucket to deal with.

BTW HD offers springs that lower your front end 1" and doesn't void the warranty.

I'm thinking about changing my springs too....

My local dealer is the Progressive dealer for the area. Since they are selling and installing these kits I am pretty sure I'm not going to run into any warranty issues.

Has anyone paid to have these installed? Curious if their labor rate is less than mine (my free time is worth a lot).

I posted this earleir but ..... this kit is going on an 07 Deuce.

Spend the money on the Racetech valves while you have it apart. Makes a big difference in the dampening. If you have a wide glide it takes that push effect out of the front end in the turns. Also stops the redlight dip.

They don't seem to have valves available for anything later than an 05.
