Did my first oil change a t100 miles. First was a bitch when I removed the oil filter. I had rags stuffed under and around the filter but allot of oil still came out. and ran down the casing. Is there an easier way to remove the filter and capture the oil while funneling it to the catch pan.
JP Cycles sells a plastic trough type thing that latches under the filter so that when you remove it the oil drains down to drain pan.
I have used a heavy piece of cardboard and rolled it to fit under the filter and that worked ok. I have also just changed the filter and then spray everything down with Simple Green and then rinsed with water after a few minutes. Simple Green is great and non-corrosive so you don't have to worry about your chrome.
In a previous post, someone mentioned cutting a 2-liter soda bottle.
Put the wrench inside the bottle with your ratchet handle on the outside. and the bottle fills with the oil.
I haven't tried it yet, but it seemed like a great idea.
Call me stupid but I do not get it. If you cut the bottle and have the wrench inside the bottle and the ratchet outside, what keeps the oil from draining out where the ratchet handle goes in? I am presuming the handle goes through the cap hole?
