Default Air filter oiling

An interesting thought just came up here at work. We do Hi Perf applications for new cars and it has come to light that when using a filter such as K&N that requires oiling, the oil can pass downstream and affect the computer sensors. Is this an issue with an EFI bike?
I am looking at the K&N for my Fatboy.

There are quite a few members on this forum that have a K&N filter.I am sure someone would have posted a problem if they had one. I have had the K&N filter in for about 4,000 miles with no problem. When you oil the filter it is pretty well absorbed by the element material. The only way I could see it happening, would be if you were to dip the filter in oil and reinstalled it with oil dripping from it. The bike probably wouldn't start anyway, from lack of air.

The crankcase ventsinto the intake right behind the air filter.

Thatputs more oil in your intake then you'll ever put on the K&Nair filter.

K&N filters are great!!

I haave heard that the Screaming Eagle air filter was made by K&N until they and Harley had a parting of the ways a few years back.

Thats good to hear, cause thats what Im going with over the winter.
There have been issues with cold air kits for GM vehicles that use oiled air filters. These oiled filters are contaminating sensors with oil mist and sending false signals to the ECM, and causing driveability problems. Maybe its just a GM thing.

I put a K&N cold air intake on my Tahoeand have over 30,000 miles on the filter. No problems, 2 more miles to the gallon, and it sounds like an old 4 barrell opening up when you romp on it.

You don't have to use much oil and the K&N filter (according to K&N) works even better when it's a little dirty. Don't over clean it. When you do clean it buy the recharge kit.It comes with a cleaner solution, wash it, let it dry. The oil comes in a spray can and has a red dye in it. Only lightly spray it withenough oil to see the color change on the filter.

If people are having problems theirs, they areusing too much oil.

And be REAL careful with how much you spray. I didn't think I put too much on, but after putting everything back together I had red oilspray on my oil tank for about a month. It wasn't much, but just a few drops leaking from the bottom of the filter housing can make a mess.
