I was thinking about putting a 2" or 3" tank lift on my '08 FXSTC at some point. Are there any adverse effects by doing this? Will the bike still be able to use all the gas in the tank, or will I "run outta gas" before my tank is actually empty. In other words, because of the tilt, will there be gas in the tank that will not be able to be used? Are there any other things I should know before I do this mod?
You will need a longer cross over fuel line that goes under the tank. And there will be a noticable gap in the tunnel due to lifting the tank Also, Harley don't have much slack in the lines that come out the front of the gauge housing. When you lift the tank, hopefully there will be enough to keep them attached.Don't know about the gas, I ordered the 2" kit for my bike, (a couple straps,4 bolts, 4 nuts) and installed it. I didn't even go for a little scoot because after staring at it for a while, all I could see is that it reminded me of how a old Honda Shadow looks with the tank lifted. It just didn't look like a natural flow to me, but hey, that's just my .02 cents, you might like it on yours.
I was just on a site that sells the kits...but, I can't seem to find it right now. From what I remember, if you go with a 2" kit, you shouldn't have to extend any lines. 3" is a different story.
I have the 2" from Chopper Style.
No problems and I think it makes the lines flow much better with the seat.
Before it looked like it was leaning forward and down to me.
lifted mine 3 inches ran my cross over line thru the frame took out that little piece of tin/plastic and went straight across. yes you do loose some reserve but then I only go 175 miles on a tank then fill up so no big deal but have gone 200 on a tank sweating all the time but made it.

Does the lift mess with the fuel gauge at all? Is a fuel injected bike affected differently than a carb bike?
Your "Low Fuel Light" will just come on a little quicker.
.....and that to me, is a good thing.
I don't have a low fuel light. I lost that feature when I installed the Thundermax. I don't have the "miles to empty" feature that the '08s come with either. All I have to go by is my odometer and my fuel gauge. I guess I'd just need to know how much gas wouldn't be able to be used, so I know how much shorter of a distance I can go before needing to fill up. Is the fuel gauge still accurate (as accurate as stock anyway)?
