Default 103" w/255's: Lovin' it

I got back yesterday from my trip south, the Train was rolling along with authority.
I now have 2000 miles on the 103 setup (7000 total milage) and it gets better as the miles go by.
I had a few instances where cages were starting to come over on me... a quicktwist on the throttle and I was instantly past them...no hesitations at any rpm.
And now for the kicker...I'm still getting 46 to 48 mpg depending on how much I twist it.The milagemay go even higher than that, but I ride the speed limit +10 (or maybe a little more)when riding the interstate.

Did you do any head work with this set-up? I've been thinking about a similar set-up...I've already got the Big Radius, on my '07 FXST. Also, I've got a SE Heavy Breather, and I'm thinking about a 103" with 255's. But I may do a PC III instead of the Race Tuner. Have you dyno'd it yet? If so, what kind of numbers are you producing?

No head work and no dyno #'s ....YET...
I'm not really trying to get it into race trim...just wanted it to MOVE when I asked it to... Mission Accomplished

I can really tella difference in the last 1000 miles, the V&H BR's have a nice angry bark when I crack the throttle and it definitely moves.

A little background.... My previous bike was a '99 WG stock bore 88" with SE 203's , SE ignition, SE breather, and rejetted carb. It would move alongVERY nicely.
When I bought my Train, I was dissappointed in the low to midrange performance. Irode 5000 miles in it's stock trim (ex. V&H and SE breather) before I decided to go with the big bore stage II. I wanted to see if it would improve after breakin. It did, but not enough for me.
I think the cams probably had the biggest impact on the performance but I didn't want to regret not getting the 103" so it got both together.....
Now, no regrets... I would highly recommend this to anyone looking to increase the performance of their 96"er.

I had an 06 Fatboy with 95 performance heads, 251 cam, 2 into 1 V&H, and it ran like a monster. Had great low end, mid-range and top end. Sold it and now have an 08 Fatboy with stock 96 and Rinhart 2 into 1 and SE Stage 1 Kit. Rode it for about 800 miles and was somewhat happy with it but wanted more. Dropped 103 stroker pistons, 103+ Heads, 257 cam, SE Race tuner, SE Air cleaner, and 50mm throttle body. It runs like a monster. Still get 44-48 mpg. When I am out stomping on it it does not do as good but to be expected. I am absoloulty in love with it and it does any and everything that I want it to.

Cool - glad the 103 is working well.
Perhaps... that is next step on mods for me LOL. I'm anxious to see how the Zippers cams run out on my ride and how the D&D fatcat pipes work in conjunction - My Fatty is still at my indy wrench waiting for weather to change so I can ride it home; only 5 miles from my house but no truck or trailer to haul it.

I just finished doing the same thing with my 07 fxstc. WOW!! What a difference!! I'm still in the "break in" phase so I need another 400 or so miles before it gets dyno'ed...but going from bone stock to this was a HUGE improvement!! Enjoy yours...I'm sure enjoying mine

Donk,
Is that price including pipes?
If so it may not be that far out of line.

EDIT:
Wait... You're saying $3,500 plus the cost of the sert and tune.
For that price it all should be included.

No i already have pipes and AC done.

They want $3500 for the BB kit and cams installed. Plus the cost of a SERT and tuning time.
