Zanotti HD ... SERT 360.00 Dealer charges 1/2 hr to install = 45.00 for a total of 405.00 ( which will help with Warrenty if they install and load the map ) and that includes Installing the closest Map for you new pipes, which will be alot better than the Stage 1 down load...Which is for the S.E. Air Filter and S.E. Slip On's Only, And it will still be Lean... The 06 TC 88 had alot better Down Load Available..07's is Very EPA Legal...

Excuse Me, GEOSISEMICWhy oh why? Would a reputable company sell a product like
the Vance & Hines fuel/Pak, that would be defeated by the factory ECM?
Where did you come up with this one? Lot's of forum members report good
running bkes with the V&H unit, me included.

Talk about timing and how this forum works for all of us. I am buying a new Deluxe at the end of this month, and Saturday went to the dealer to give my salesman a list of the things I'd like on the bike so he can start figuring out how much it will cost and from where to start the dealing. When he noticed I had listed V&H TrueDuals, he said I HAD to buy the SERT or the warranty would be voided upon delivery.
Ask this pinhead to put that in writing, then show him a copy and ask him if he ever read the MAGNUSON MOSS WARRANTY ACT and see if he changes his tune. Hopefully there is another dealer nearby. I'd avoid this one right from the get go. I run the V&H True Duals with the V&H Fuel Pak and I've had my bike into the dealership for check engine light (they changed my injectors) and everything was still covered under warranty.

Well you do not need the SERT for just pipes and SE Stage 1. Now I did put the SERT on my 08 fatboy that is because I did serious engine mods. The thing about the SERT is that you can go in and program it for every 20 rpms. The SERT is very advanced software and you can do a lot with it if you have enough time and dyno time. That is the big key. I had a friend that has an 07 deluxe and he put SE forged pistons, performance heads, SE258 cam, and it had no throttle response off idle but around 3000 rpm it would roar like a tiger. He put the SERT on it and it brought the low end back and you can roll on the throttle and it responds.

You know I hadn't really thought about the possibility of the ecm correcting for the fuel values the fuel pac is sending to the injectors, kinda makes sense though. The ecmgets all it's info for A/F ratio from the o2 sensors so when it sees it running richer it seems to me that it would compensate for it. Hmmm....interesting theory.

I like the expression from above, "I drank the Kool-Aid", so did I. [:@]

I'd bought my '03 FXST used from a Dealer with 6700 mi. on it. It already had the V&H pipes on it and it not only popped on decel it seemingly outright backfired at times. Finally got tired of it two months ago and took it to the dealer.

Not knowing diddly-squat about the FI on these bikes I didn't know if any work needed to be done when the previous owner added the pipes, or if that work had been done....I just wanted to reduce (or eliminate, best-case) the problems on decel.

After the service tech got a look at the bike I got a call indicating I needed a race tuner so that they could dyno and dial-in the bike. Turns out the previous owner had already added a race tuner to it but because they'd never given the 'dongle' (interface) part to the selling dealer, the tuner that was already on the bike was rendered useless according to the tech - the 'dongle' and the tuner are a matched set and without the dongle part they couldn't access the map (this is what I was told) to do what they needed to do. Thus, the cost was $499.00 (!!) for the race tuner so they could dyno.... The other thing the tech told me was that the bike should be rev limited to 5500 rpm but he was able to take my bike up to 6k-ish rpm and that was a problem as well. Of course I don't want to blow my engine up, so.....

While I'm a pretty good wrench (and computer guy) I admit I'm a little intimidated by not only the FI on these bikes but addressing/changing the maps the way some folks do....I do most of the other maintenance work on my bike. What I failed to do was read this forum a little more closely to figure out what I might have needed and possibly being able to go about doing it myself and cheaper, if possible. I took the dealer at their word that this is what I needed in order for them to fix my decel and rev issues and to dyno and dial it in, they did so. I've nary a pop any more on decel now...unfortunately the final tally was $820 and I feel like I got bent over.

I wrench on my own cars as well as my bike, in this case I left it in the dealer's hands because of my inexperience and lack of comfort working with the FI and the map and as usual, whether on a car or a bike - it impacts the wallet big-time to be ignorant and let the dealer do the work.

All that being said - now that I have the race tuner (and the dongle) and the software that goes with it...how hard is it to learn to modify the map to dial it in a little more? I'd like a little more 'oomph' on the lower end, it seems like I lost a little of that when the dealer made the changes.....?

TIA as always for any assist. [8D]
