Don't count them out yet! I am 5'6 with 16" apes. Though I have short legs, my torso is probably close to yours in length. I ride with my hands about 1/2" to 1" above shoulders.
Check out Chrome Lady, she has 14" wild one chubbies on her Deluxe.

Hey CNC...Those 14" apes on Chrome Lady's scoot are exactly what I am looking for....I am getting the Wild-1 14" apes mounted to 3 1/2 risers...Was curious what size (clutch,throttle,idle,electrical,etc.) cable sizes you went with?? Want to minimize down-time, and order everything at once!! Was told +8 on the clutch and +10 on the rest...Would like a few more opinions on actual fitments...

Chrome lady has all +8 stuff, if you are doing the 3 or 4 inch riser, do +10's.

16" flame engraved apes. love em, sometimes I regret getting the flame engraved bars because every person that sees em instantly grabs and rubbs em with there grubby hands, I can never keep em clean!!!
