i have a 2007 fxstc it has a memphis fats windshield.it still has a lot of wind coming upward..it blows your hat offand any loose clothing beats you till it makes you crazy.i perfer no windshield at all but those 3 or 4 hour rides on interstate beats on ya .does anybody else have this problem? it my shield out of adjustment? i appreciate any help or ideas.
Ahh, I thought your problem was wind of the bean induced type, the solution of which is simple.
However riding a motorcycle at speed is indeed very likely cause your hat to be blown off (I said hat, not what you were thinking)and cause loose clothingto move around. You could ride hat-less and naked but that may lead to other problems as I discovered one (rare) sunny day over here - ouch sunburn!!
Some other suggestions:
Ride slow
Wear a tight fitting hat or one with a strap
Wear tighter fitting clothes or eat at Macdonalds for a month
Stop riding
Seriously,if it'ssome wind buffeting you're trying to avoid modify your windshield - lots of threads posted on that. Or try a windvest - see my sig pic. Butif you want to ride in a wind free cocoon buy an Ultra (which isn't totally windfree) or one of the these.
The wind buffeting is coming from under the windshield. If you want to minimize it,you need to install some wind deflectors on the forks, below the windshield. Unfortunately, HD doesn't make them for FX Softails. There are aftermarket ones I have seen in the J&P catalog.
I know Chrome Junkie is right, I use the Harley chrome ones and it stops all that and I even put the shorter 17" shield on.
Memphis Shades also makes some out of the same stuff the shield is made from.
You can buy a set of the Harley turn signal re-location kits for the forks and mount the chrome ones that way. A buddy of mine had them on his Dyna Wide Glide for years. Cool thing is, on & off in 15 minutes.
On an FX, you can also run the "compact" Harley windshield. Flip the brackets and just run it lower. That way the lower sides of the windshield act as your deflectors. Basically, mount it so the "cross brace" is just above the headlamp.
I had the same problem.. bought these deflecters (Lowers) by Memphis shades.... does keep the air from coming up from below the gas tank.
Recently took a trip down I-10 from San Antoino to El Paso.
Going 80 mph for extended periods had less helmet wind buffeting then I had at 55 without the Lowers.
