I'm on my second set of Metzeler ME880s. The next set will be ME880s, and the ones after that as well! Call me a fan, hehehe... I got about 10K miles out of the front and 12K miles out of the rear on the first set. They handle better, don't track in grooves, and are FAR better in the rain than the stock Dunlops.

Cheers!

I have used the avon venom X and really liked the handling of that tire. The harley I just bought had brand new tires put on it so I am on the dunlops right now but when they were out it will be back to the avons. I have heard great things about the metzler me880s as well but I chose avon because of price. Got mine from mawonline.com. Their site is not very user friendly but their prices on tires are good.

I'm thinking of going with the Avon Cobra tire. They make one in the same size as the OEM Dunlop. Only thing is they don't have a front to match in the size I need. Has anybody tried this tire? Also, would anything bad happen if the front tire doesn't match the rear?

This is what I was thinking of matching it up with up front:

Stupid question here---if you purchase your own tires do you have the dealer change them or a tire store?

People go from a worn out stock tire with a worn down profile, right to a brand new set of something else and think "wow, these handle great".
Well, duh.....

Nobody has more experience, or more of a diverse selection of tires than Dunlop. My second choice would be Avon.
There is no third choice IMO.

I'm not sure what I'm going to do yet. There is an Indy shop here in town that I was thinking of bringing it too, and I was going to have the rear wheel powdercoated while it's all of. Still debating.

It would look kind of like this:
