I dont even ride mine in the rain if I dont have to. I never wash it with hose and water. I only use maguires detailer wash. After every ride I clean it and make sure there are no bugs stuck to it. I feel I may be a bit over the top on that. It sits in my garage that is insulated and has dust control. If I see dust on it. I get out the maguires and a microfiber to clean it up. Since I was a kid I always wanted one and now that I have one I take great pride in owning it. Here in AZ the heat and sun kills seats. Im amazed that some folks just leave them out to get killed in the sun. I am lucky enough to have a 4 car garage so storage is not an issue.

I built a shed just for the purpose of storing my bike. But on the other hand, I have way too many things going on in my own life to be "Bothered" about what someone else does with thier bike.

Perhaps that's what guys are going for when you see "Never been in the rain" in the sale write-ups. That is supposed to double resale value if you believe such things.

I say don't mess with the guy. He's either rich enough to not worry about it. He'll pay someone to bust rust in the spring. And he's therefore rich enough to sue you for something. The alternative is that he's low income and education and little bent in the head. Likely he's been on COPS and would love the opportunity to be in another episode. Your efforts to save his bike won't be looked upon fondly.

An old biker buddy of mine became physically unable to ride. He leaned his old 68 BMW R75 up against his trailer home back in '91 and hasn't moved it since. It's rotting away and I have tried everything to convince him to sell it to me or atleast let me take it and get it running again. He won't budge. I think it is a reminder of good times and he would just hate to not see it outside anymore. I covered it with a tarp one time and he just removed it. What can you say, it's his bike!

Well, I don't have a garage, so Reaper (my Night Train) stays outside during riding season. She's tough though, rain won't melt her, and I do wash her at least twice a year! The only thing I really don't like is having the paint beat on by the sun... but then, when it's sunny, I'm riding, so even if I DID have a garage, the sun would be beating up the paint!

Cheers!

Seeing something sitting outside unprotected in the weather also really bothers me. I especially hate it when the object is an animal (like a dog that no one gives a sh*t about)or something that there are few of left, i.e. classic car, older Harley etc. I know a guy who leaves his old '76 dresser sit out, uncovered for at least 7 months of the year. He lives in an apartment, but you think he could at least cover it. I looked at it last summer and all the fasteners, rims, etc. are going to need replacing. Yesterday, I went by a house that has a '63 Grand Prix still sitting outside. It was for sale last summer and was a decent car. Here in the Northeast, they use so much salt, that it is in the air if you live on a busy highway - much like living near the ocean. I think that how you treat things, both living and inanimate, says something about character.
