HD 103
The 103 is a highly stroked out engine with poor breathing. It does have more torque but is not a highly tuned engine in any way. Why not spend the same money on an S&S and get a hell of a motor? I can't wait for my Harley motor to crap out so I have an excuse to go S&S.

What are the ratings on the engine and how much did it run you? What did you do with the stock engine?

You're going to see a lot of different performance figures for this kit, and they'll all depend on your setup (cams, carb, or EFI settings etc...). I've seen numbers anywhere in the 100/100 hp/tq range, on up to nearly 130hp/ 126tq using an S&S 585 cam (just saw a dyno sheet of this yesterday). It's all going to depend on what your performance goals are (top end, midrange...).
As far as how much it ran me, that's a whole other story. I had the SE 103 kit and SE 6-speed in the bike at the time of purchase and got an AMAZING deal on it. The dealer in my area charges in the $5k area for the complete kit incl. labor, but again you can fine tune the setup to meet your needs which will of course adjust the price.

I think you may want to re-check your info to see what kind of 103" setup you're referring to. The 103 can be a real nice performer if done right. Case in point, I went with SE 257 cams (over the normal 253) and several other upgrades (carb, pipes, flywheel, etc.) I've been very impressed with the motor so far and I've yet to really get on it. I'm obviously very interested to get it on the dyno too, sometime this Spring, once she's completely broken in.
Compared to S&S or Revtech (or even H&L), sure you could probably go bigger for the same money, but I've got a full warrenty behind my build and this kit is exactly what I want in my bike right now.
Different "strokes" for different folks, I guess (no pun intended).

Yeah, I guess anything can be tuned better. Good point.
Here's a question for this upgrade.
A buddy that lives in NJ got same bike as mine last year.
05 nighttrain (EFI)
He had the cash to blow and talked to dealer about doing the SE-103 upgrade. He was told that they could BUT they'd only warranty it for 6 months. If the bike already came with the SE package ( such as the Fatboy) that was only covered for a year. Basically they were telling him it was not as reliable as stock or what he ended up getting which was the 95 upgrade.
Anyone else heard of this? Any long term riders that have had the SE upgrade for a while? How does it hold up over the long haul?
Thanks
Rob
