Default Why do people do this?

They go out and buy a fatboy and proceed to turn it into a Heritage softail.
FatBoy + Saddlebags, windshield, passing lamps, handlebars, spoke wheels, etc. = Heritage Softail

If you wanted a Heritage, why didnt you just buy one?

How does that Physics lesson go? "The shortest distance between two points is a straight line."? Seems like alot of money and ground to cover when the starting point was already the destination. Damn it, I think I just confused myself. [sm=happybounce.gif]

Maybe they don't like the Conchos or the studs on their leather items , does it really matter ? Sounds like someone is bored or pissed and trying to start a brawl ! It may be cold/wet out but go for a ride and get the blood flowing .

Well, sometimes we are thinking of one thing and then change our mind and consider other options and end up somewhere else. Sometimes it's no more complicated than that.

You've misread me Dan

I have no interest in a brawl.

I am motivated by curiosity only. I've seen many people do this and I cant fathom why.

Does it really matter? No.

Does it really have to matter? Again, no

I think 85% of the post on this forum are on inconsequential subjects

Why do they do it? Because they can...thats the beauty of owning a Harley - there are so many things you can do to one that when someone says "I'm done with mine" - they're simply lying to themselves cause you're never "done"...

Althought Fat Boys and HSC share the same frame, they have different fenders and tank graphics etc etc so even though you can do things to "mimick" an HSC, it still won't be an HSC - its still a modified Fat Boy...

There are real practical reasons as well...bags for example - make it easy to store rain gear, carry groceries, stuff for the longer overnight rides etc etc...

Chunks ,
Looks like you have the quick detach for your windshield , got them on your fender strut also ? Maybe for a quick detach sissy bar and bags ? Just out of curiosity did you learn the hard way ? By the way I very much perfer FB over the Heritage but thats just my taste . Now that I think about it a little more , a good reason for buying a FB and adding the touring stuff is : in my mamy trips to different HD dealers I've only seen 1 or 2 Heritages as compared to probably a hundred or more Fat Boys .

How about a Heritage with a Fat Boy fender?

BTW: I've got a rear FB wheel for it sitting in my garage. I'll be putting it on when it's time to change out the tire. The spoke rim is a PITA to clean without removing the bags.

To the owner,
it's personal choice.

In the eyes of the beholder,
It's all just an accumulation of HD used part #'s with incredibly depreciated values.

And I can hardly wait to change some more. LOL

I almost did that very thing! In my case, it was just the fact that, though I like the Heritage bags...I don't LOVE them! At least I didn't before I bought the Heritage. Funny how owning one (OK, being in DEBT!) changes one's perspective!

It came down to simple economics for me...I saved about $1,200 (at least!) by buying the Heritage over the Fat Boy with all the "touring" add ons.
