I have 16" Wild One apes in my 07 Fat Boy. I have had them for a while and my impressions are as follows:
- like the way they make me sit - my back would get sore after 30 minutes of riding with the stock bars. The 16s make me sit up straight.
- like the way the bike handles with the 16s. No problems, even at low speeds.
OK where am I going with this? I don't love the way they look. I know some people really like the look of apes - I do too, but for some reason, I am still not totally sold on the way they look on my bike.
My question is what other bars are out there that will keep me from leaning over somewhat and putting some stress on the ole back? Just a question as the old saying of beauty is only skin deep may prevail and I make no change.
Get a set of 18's My buddy had them on his fatboy and it looked great. Its kind of a go big or go home. They were the thin bars too. the chubby's don't look as good in my opinion unless its a road king or bagger.
IMHO the chubby's make the bars look to wide at the base doesn't match up as well with the bar clamps. another guy I ride with has the 18's 1 inch on a heritage springer it looks down right ganster. It all depends on the look you are trying to achieve balanced with comfort.
I have a deuce and drag bars fit the bike better. I got the idea of tall drags from a fatty I saw with them on this site(wild1(chubby) 507's. I am tall so I wanted to be higher and back also. They are tall so I did a tank lift to make it look better(to me).Don't know if this helps any...
I got to ask, can you really ride longer than an hour with 16" apes?? Everyone looks cool, but seems that it would be hard to ride very long?? Curious??
