I having been tossing the idea around of changing my V&H Big Radius due to their abundance in the industry. Until I work up the funds for a new systemI was thinking of wrapping the pipes with heat wrapsto see how they look. Cananyone give me some pointers on this process? Has anyone seenor have pictures of BR with heat wraps? Thank for you help and input.
I really like the looks of a wrapped exhaust. Start by soaking the wrap in water, I soak one long strip because I wrap mine with one long continuious strip.
I start at the top of the exhaust about 1 inch from the flange. Wrap it while its wet and pull it tight. Take you time and overlap each layer. I use 2 inch wide wrap and overlap 1/2 inch, try to keep the overlaping even.
The bends are tougher to wrap and keep even, just take your time and pull the wrap tight. Just remember that if it does not look good you can pull it off and start over.
Keep the wrap wet, this helps on the bends to keep the wrap tight.
I used Cool-Tec black wrap on the missus's bike. Also bought the stainless ties. Nice and small so they don't detract from the wrapping look. You can get it onlne, or from Summit Racing or any speed shop.
i used cool tech also, got it at autozone.the small metal straps came with.i believe 1 roll is 50 ft in length, ive got short shots, and had a few feet left over.
