Hello. I would like to put an late model factory swingarm on my 2000 softail frame. I would like to put a '05 or later factoryswingarm on my 2000 fatboy so I can have a wider tire without having to buy one of the megabuck kits. I know the fender struts will need to come off and that doesn't matter as I plan on replacing the fender anyway. Just wondering if it can be done. The factory part number for the 2000 swingarm is 45573-00 and for an '07 is 45573-00A. Are the bearings the same? There's more... What kind of offset or transmision mainshaft length is used to keep everything centered and able to run a 200 rear? I'm sure that a kit would make it easy but the winters are long and I like to tinker. Thanks for any help.
[align=left]The swingarms are the same 00-05. For some of the 06-07 Softail models (Standard, Nightrain, etc), they changed the tab the brake caliper mounts to, put a narrower belt/pulley on, and modified the frame horns a bit; but the swingarm is still the same width.
A while back (maybe a year or so???), someone here on HDForums used parts from an 06 or 07 to mount a 200mm tire on his bike using his original swingarm, but I don't recall who it was. In fact, if memory serves, I think he even used his original one-piece caliper by shaving some of it off to fit.

Dave is right, the swing arm is the same width the brake mounting tab is shaved on the fat tire swing arms. Do a search, this was one of my first questions when I got here.
