Default straight pipes

Hi all, while reading around on another site, I came across a guy who said putting on straight pipes, fries valves.
Can anyone tell me if this is true, or what he means by this.

thanks all

He's wrong. Unless the straight pipes are extremely short, you'll do no damage. What you will have is a loss of torque from just off idle and up through maybe 4000 rpm, which is right where most of your riding is done. There are methods to deal with this, but they aren't perfect. Check this site in the exhaust section for something on drag pipes, and also somewhere on here is something on Thunder Baffles.

when you say extremely short, would the v&h sideshots or bigshots be considered too short

No there not to short at all. the big shot staggerd's will give you the most advantage on the straight pipe's because they have a crossover in them, go to the V&H web site and take a look.[sm=yikesomg.gif]

Short pipes that would couse problems are in the 1 foot or so range.

Any pipe you buy should be fine. I only know of one pipe that says not to run on street becouse of tunability problems. The are called LAF's. It is short for load as f#@ks.

They are about 1 foot long and come right out of the jugs and turn slightly out and down.

Only for show.
