I was considering those flush mounts too. How do the LED dim during evening hours? The catalog mentions a self dimming feature, but after all these probs mentioned, I'd hate to ride around with a set of LED lights shining in my face at night.
Installed the HD flush mount cap and LED gauge3 weeks ago. Very happy, slightly off gauge reading as it's calibrated for the Rocker and not my Deuce, but no problem with the LED's burning out (yet), they are fine.
Nice and bright in the day (but not to the point of distraction), they dim at night so still very easy to read but not blinding. Love the way the both look like flat chrome and then the gauge lights up with ignition.
Saw on another thread here (deuce bigelow??) that the recent rocker part is a newer design and problems were with the older general softail (except FXSTD) part... could be wrong here though.
The flush gauges were the first thing I added when I got my Rocker at the end of February. As other posts have stated, the LED's worked great...for a while. About 4 weeks after installing, the LED showing that the fuel pump is working burned out or for some other reason just quit working. The LED's showing the fuel level all work so I haven't screwed with changing it and won't until one of them goes too.
For looks, they are great. Clean up the tank and the LED's are bright (when working) during the day and just right at night.
Were those HD brand and covered by warranty? Never heard of the fuel pump indicator... Still trying to decide. I love the way they look just don't want my new bike in the shop all the time.
They are HD brand and should be covered under warranty. I need to check the box to make sure it is a year warranty but I won't fart with having them replaced unless the fuel indicator LED's go...not worth the hassle. I've already realized that I trust the odomotor for gauging fuel in the tank more than I do the floater or whatever the hell is installed at the factory. The low fuel indicator on my bike comes on with almost 2 gallons left in the tank. Within the first couple of weeks I realized I needed to fill up, run 100 miles, and fill up again. This easily gave me my MPG and now I know when to fill up. As for the bike being in the shop, I don't see that being the case because of the flush cap and gauge. They were very easy to install and would be just as easy to remove and replace with a new set. The look great and even with the LED problems I'd buy them again.
i installed mine also about 4 or 5 weeks ago also. i think they are awesome and make the tank look great, mine are the hd brand, so far no problems. was not that hard to do, i have done all of my own upgrades, i cant see paying that high labor charge for most of the upgrades, with a service manual it makes alot of these upgrades eaiser. if you get the service manual make sure you get the latest version part # 99482-08A. it has to have the A at the end for the correct manual that has the rocker stuff in it.
good luck with any upgrades you do and if i can help just ask me and ill do what i can to help. if i can ever figure out how to post pics you can see my progress
Thanks emsley3, gadawgsfan, & flyburch. Based on you guys' recommendation that you'd "buy them again", I will get off the fence, take a chance, and ask my HD dealer to order them for me in time to install while in for the 1000 mi. svc. I did order the Rocker Svc Manual. Once done, will post an updated pic - probably towards the end of this month or early next month.
