UPSwas here today and Igot my Barebacks.... I am going to put them on my 2008 Fatboy with my saddlebags. I have the detachable sissy bar from Harley. Right now the saddlebags are rigid mounted to the bike. Any tips or pointers for the install? The driections that came with the Barebacks are not very good. They state that I may need a spacer. Does anybody know if I will need a spacer?
Once you install the barebacks on to your bike you will discover if you need to put spacers on the saddlebag mounts. The Bareback system requires the two mounting points to be perfectly parallel. So you may need to shim either the front or the back so they line up. Once you get it it is very easy to put on and off. Put one mount on and then see if the other mount lines up. If it is to far away then it need to be shimmed toward the bike and if it is to far in then the other mount need to be shimmed toward the bike.
One thing I did discover is if you are worried about someone stealing your saddlebags. You can turn the saddle bag bolt about a quarter turn and then then will not come off with out an end wrench handy.
I hope you bought the Chrome caps too. They look great and no one even thinks you have mounts under there.
Lets see close-up pics when you get them on your bike. I am considering them for my XBones with the detachable sissybar and hardmounted saddlebags. Is your saddlebag bolts the ones that goes thru the docking hardware and into the fender strut? Mine is, so I was wondering if the bolts supplied by Barebacks are long enough. They told me I would need kit # CV-136. Is that the one you bought?
I have the detachable sissybar..... So according to their chart (seelink below) I ordered CV-137. The CV-136 is the kit to use without the detachable sissybar. The thread on the bolt is nearly 2" long so I think it will be long enough. I am going to try to make time to install them tomorrow (if I dont go for a ride instead). If not I will get it done over the weekend for sure. I will post some pics and let you know how it goes.
I got the Barbacks installed today. It was real easy. Less than 15 minutes. They work great. I like everything about them. I know I made the right decision for me. I really like the chrome caps when the bags are removed. Here are some pics. I took a few of the mounting points too.
Mike, did your bags prior to the barebacks attach to the SB docking points to the side of the bags? A pic of the back of your bags would be useful. It looks like the BB's spaced your bags out from the siderails an additional inch or less. How stable are the bags with the BB's? Any way to secure them so no-one walks off with them? Jerry
I just got a stupid question, do you have to modify the bags themself in any way to use the barebacks? like add plates to the back of the saddle bags like the ez brackets, or line up and drill new holes in the leather bags?

I will try to get a picture of the back of the bags and post it today.
The Barebacks added maybe 1 more inch of space between the bike and the bags. It isnt much. Before the Barebacks the bags were rigid mounted withe the detachable sissybar. I took the 2 bolts out of each sadlebag and replaced it with the Barebacks. It was real easy.
The bags are very secure. Unless you knew how to remove them (a fellow biker)they wont come off. It is very simple once you know how. As far as making them secure. Once they are on you can take a 5/8" box end wrench and turn the bolt slightly. Then they will not be able to be removed withouthaving a wrench and knowing how to turn the bolt. I feel they are more secure like thatover the rigid mount. In order to steal themyou would have to know about the Barebacks and how they work, have a wrench and then you could steal them.
There were no modifications required to the saddlebags.
