I can NOT understand why people ask why they would put a spring seat on a Softail. I could ask you why they put so much chrome on some bikes.
Go out to your garage and count all the chrome pieces. How many of those chrome pieces are actually useful. Why not just make them all polished or even black? Oh ya, because it looks cool!!!!
I am not busting anyones chops here, but it makes me laugh every time I read the uselessness of a spring seat on a Softail.

so........um....why do they put a spring seat on a softail??
Because the springs on the seat looks cool. I apologize for not being clear. Chrome is useless, springs on a Softail are useless. I guess I don't see the difference.
Am I wrong here?
My point: To each his/her own. I don't love chrome, you don't love springs on a Softail. Neither make the bike go faster, but both are about as useful.
FYI
I took the springer seat off of my XB trying to get the seat lower so my wife could ride it... It was only off for a week....
I did not like the ride or the "look" of the bike without the stock seat....
The spring seat on a softtail does help the ride, kind of like saying my car has shocks why not just put in a padded bench seat. Ride one and see, because it's a softtail you feel no bumps in the road? It also does look good on this bike.
3500 on mine and lovin every minute of the ride. I cant ride right now due to a broken wrist and it bums me out, but I just ordered my exhaust and next are the swingarm bags, left and right. I want a lower seat height but dont know what seat to get. I want to keep the springer seat, anybody have any suggestions?
