I have to agree 100% with Marsh. A cross bones should never ever have a windshield. I cant stand a windshield on a fatboy let alone a replica hardtail bobber. Just get some good goggles ...

Screming Eagle & 6165, tell me please in your own words just how much seat of the pants increase in power you got from 96 to 103".
Thanks,
Marsh
Ok, heres the deal. I have not had a dyno yet on the bones... Coming from a 88ci and upgrading to a 1550-95 ci big bore kit. The HP's where better on the 95".

My chart - Max HP's on the dyno 1550- sert = 83.48 / Max Torque = 95.07

The 103 kicks ***, in Torq in the lower to mids .. you just touch the trottle and you feel the bike just want to go!!
Great to get the hell out of the way from cagers!!! Awsome when going up hills and steeper grade!!!!!but looses hps in the mid range....and I can feel the dip, then picks up again once up in speed 65's- 75'smph. A 2-1 exhaust may help there...running .stock pipes w/rush...

I feel that the bike runs longer at higher speeds before having to change to the next gear, And the bike runs much smoother in the 5 &6 gear when up in the high 70's for highway.. I don't feel that high gear noise and vibration, feeling that the bike needs a 7th gear.

Bottom Line is:
The bike won't do a wheelie, and Im not interested.
It all depends on what your looking for,?? it may not be worth the $$ to spend on a 103' if you don't need it or are happy with your current set up... I just like pushing the envelope and always looking for a little extra...

And so many combinations to build a great ride,,, one is $$$$

Depending on how my dyno goes when I get it... I predict to have minimum differences in HP's, with a increase in torque...but notso fantastically great...so I will be depressed!!!![&o] Anyway..I love to ride [sm=biker2.gif] keeping it FUN and learning along the way....There are hell of alot faster bikes out there I know... but so what..... If you pass me along the way... I'l catch up to you when I get there!!!!!!

Under warranty so won't do aftermarket.... all HD...all screamin eagle..for now, have a Good mechanic!! and a Good Shop you have faith in and they will take good care of you.

Thanks 6165. Good description. I notice you don't mention performance cams. I have S&S gear drive cams and they gave my 88" quite a bit of punch. Also have you put hi comp heads on? I suppose you would have to go with all SE parts, cams & heads to keep your warrenty but it should help.
I plan to go to 95" this winter and will do something with the heads although I'm not sure if I will have my heads ported and polished or bite the bullet and get CNC heads and higher comp. pistons.
I'm kinda glad I don't have a warrenty to concern me.

I have the taller windshield and don't get any buffeting even a interstate speeds. It is just high enought to shoot the wind over the top of the helmet.

And Marsh, no hard feelings...it has been a good discussion My 25 year old son comes over and borrows the old man's bobber all the time and the windshield is always the first thing he strips off of it. When I ask why, he just shakes his head and says that it just isn't cool! Go figure! I don't care, I guess I am just set in my ways. At my age, being comfortableis more important than the cool factor...but there again I am not 25. Jerry
Jerry, no hard feelings taken. We're just having fun here, but I gotta agree with you son-it ain't cool and I bet I'm older than you. Cool knows no age, but if you're spending that much time at highway speeds, then I can't blame you.

its night and day. my last bike was an 07 screamng eagle ultra with the 110. the 96 engine is a slug. i wasnt going to buy the bike at all, until the sales guy told me the 103 build would give me the same feeling i had with the 110 in the ultra. currently i am working with the dealer to get a good tune with my sert, but 96 to 103 is a HUGE, HUGE difference

Wow I haven't looked at this post in awhile and what do I find? A hornets nest of opinions. LOL. I actually like the discussion and opinions on the subject. The only reason I was thinking of a wind shield was for those long cruises on the highway I want to take. I think the general consensus on every question on this forum is that everybody has their own opinions about how they would want their bike looking or riding. That is what makes owning a Harley great. It's my first motorcycle and I am enjoying every minute of it. Still haven't decided on the wind shield or not. Looks I agree with the wind shield not great, but comfort on a long trip at highway speed may out weigh looks. And besides like it has been stated, it comes off in a minute.

psdj, are you serious? Yikes! You bought a 95" scoot for your first bike? I learned to ride on smaller bikes and owned 5 progressively larger bikes before I got a big bike. I've heard of people lately doing that, especially womenand don't understand. That seems like someone going out and buying a .44 magnum before they learn how to shoot a .22.
Please take a Motorcycle Safety Foundation course before you crash and burn. Maybe you've already taken the course, in which case I applaud you. A big Harley twin isa dangerousbike to learn on. So is a crotch rocket.
