Tried to chrome over them; didn't work. Now tossed.

ORIGINAL: 06DEUCE well, actually it has nothing to do with being "my own man" i thought that the idea of this web site was to make conversation, get opinions, ask ?'s. why else are we here? other than show off pic's
I was making conversation. As you just said, this site is about getting opinions, and that was mine... take it or leave it. It's your choice. IMHO, reflectors are simply a matter of personal preference, just like deciding what color paint to use. I wouldn't ask someone else what color they think I should paint my bike. Personally, I don't care how other people build their bikes, I build mine the way I want to build it. That is my opinion. If someone asks for my advice, I will give it. I won't lose any sleep if they decide not to use it, though. What's that old saying...? If you don't think you'll like the answer, don't ask the question.

Any tips on getting the reflectors off without damaging the paint or scratching the forks?

Get some fishing line and wrap it around two sticks so you make kind of like two handles at either end with the fishing line in between. Then position the fishing line directly under the reflector and with a back and forth motion you will remove the relector. Once that's removed comes the fun part. Get a glue disolvevent which won't damage your paint and rub like you've never rubbed before! I used Eucalyptas oil. Removing the reflectors is the easy part. It's the glue that's left behind thats the killer! It took a bit of rubbing but I got there in the end. A little polish and hey presto... good luck!

Mine are gone too. I just wish that I would have heard some tips on how to take them off easily before I spent an hour playing with the leftover glue and rubbing my fingernail down to the nub. I was too nervous to use goof off.

Mine are gone.....finally.

Fishing line and 3M Adhesive remover, worked like a charm on the forks and the paint, no damage whatsoever.

I would do them right before detailing the bike, that way you get everything spit and shined and you're ready to go showoff your new reflector-less bike.

Chicks don't dig reflectors.

No matter what you use, keep the floss/line between the reflector and the adhesive, not between the adhesive and the fork.

That way no scratches. Take your time, it works.
