Does anybody have or has anybody seen a windvest on a springer front end such as a Crossbones? I'd like to get some sort of tinted windshield but not a regular tall shield but something like a deflector for my Crossbones. Something that I can take on and off. Dont' plan on keeping the shield on all the time, just on a long trip. Also, since I"m new to having a springer front end, will any springer mounting bracket for a windshield work on my crossbones?
Check out the windvest website, I've seen the windvest on all kinds of bikes, they clamp onto the bars, seen them on apes, so I'm assuming they should work for your setup.
Here's a front and rearview of my 14" Wind Vest on an 08 Softail Custom. Mounting is easy and adjustable. If you look close in the second pic you can see how it mounts, very easy and clean.
+1 on the Windvest. I have the 18" on my Softail Custom. Took me a while to get it "dialed in" but it is great. Keeps the wind off your head and shoulders but looks good on the bike. I mostly leave it on now but if you do remove it it leaves no scratches because the mounting hardware stays put when you take it off. Great product. I had to send mine back for a bigger one. Windvest customer service is superb.
I have mini apes on my standard and have had a 16" clear windvest for almost a year now and I absolutely love it. Last week I took it off just for a change, rode 10 miles and turned around and put it back on.I forgot how brutal an 80MPH wind was. I especially like how clearly I can hear my pipes at 80MPH.I had a HD quick detach and there is no comparison, IMO. Its never coming off again.
I have the 16" windvest on my deuce. It's ok. You might have to play around with the height and angle to get the best protection but still avoid helmet buffeting. I do think it's the best looking windshield out there, but I've never ridden with another windshield so I can't tell you if it's the best functioning. It's not perfect, that's for sure. A lot of wind comes in from underneath the shield.
I've got the 14x14. If your close to 6' or over I'd recomend the 16". You can adjust it so you get the right angle to get helmet buffeting to a minimum. I've got both the Windvest and HD kingsizedetachable. Windvest is good for shorter runs up the freeway and the kingsize for longer runs or colder weather. The difference I've noticed is the wind buffeting of the bike is more prounounced with the kingsize vs. theWindvest (I know obvious statement). When removing the Windvest the mounting brackets stay mounted on the handlebars so once you have it adjusted you'll get no movement to scratch the handlebars.
