Finally had a chance to get the bike on a long stretch of 70mph road. 6th gear hauls @ss. That little green six pops up on the dash and so long as you are doing 65+, it rolls... realy nice!
During accelerating onto a freeway I will shift to 6th gear around 65 or 70 or so.
As a rule of thumb, if I'm gonna be cruising at the same speed for an while I will shift into the next higher gear, if engine speed is sufficient of course, better for the engine and saves a little on gar too.
Same would be true of a manual transmission car though so it comes natural I think.
You don't want to be lugging the engine by upshifting too soon or driving at a too low rpm for the gear for an extended amount of time ... not good for the engine.
