Since you've got a lot invested in your ride and are justifiable proud - why not get a set of hand-made, custom bags from www.heathersleathers.com The owner, Wayne, will work with your design needs to create exactly what youwant. Go with a different color maybe - or perhaps a designthat just you have.He does outstanding, quality work. I'm using the "Ghost" brackets to mount them to my softail Springer Classic.
I've got the Harley factory bags specifically for the Softail. They fit great and look pretty good. You can get quick detach brakets to take them on and off eaisly bu to be honest, like you I always want to bring something with me, jacket, chaps, long sleeve shirt, stuff I bought, you name it, so I end up just leaving them on.
i just picked up a set off ebay to go on whatever i buy when i heal up. i know they will need some work, but makes me happy. got em for under $80 probably worth $10, but i'm laid up and ain't got nothing else to do.
