I have an '08 CUSTOM and I had it delivered with the HD bags that one of the posts below have (blue fatty shown) that are for the '07 and '08 Fatboy. They have the Spanish lacing on them. My bike also has the HD quick detach windshiels too. I've only taken the bags off twice ane when I do, she's naked, it looks funny to me. I bought a matching windshield bag from a member here that's very convient for things. I can carry a bicycle bottle with push/pull cap and it works great to get a drink of water going down the road. Just open with my teeth!
"Ibought the HD windshield bag. It is perfect for sunglasses, cell phone, registration, keys whatever small items you want to store..... It was $ 100.00 but I know you can get a different brand for cheaper. "
You could have baught a leather Fanny Pack for $10 and made the same thing out of it. [>:]
Years ago when my Softail was my only bike it had to be my "Do-all" bike. At that time I had a detachable backrest and luggage rack (I know you said you'd rather not go this route). I purchased a setup similar to a T-Bag for the bike. With this piece of luggage came what looks like a small duffel bag. I would use this duffel bag lookingsetup when I wasn't using the big bag. I would attach it to my handlebars. Whilenothing for looks it did what I needed it to do.Once empty the bag would scrunch up and fit in my jacket pocket.
On my current Softail I usually roll my gear up and bungy it to my bars. The days of vanity are gone for me. I know when the sun drops behind the trees I'm going to need my jacket so I travel with it.
From time to time I still use my duffel bag setup and it is fantastic for small or loose items.
Looking at the various bikes at the events I have considered installing just a luggage rack on my fender sans the backrest. I believe it is Motherwell (SP?) who makes a small rack that doesn't look like it came off of a car roof.

I have close to $30k into my Fatboy..... Why would I want to skimp on a $ 100.00 windshield bag? The bag Ibought matches the seat and my saddlebags. Its only money. I dont want my bike to look ghetto. But thanks for the suggestion.
Sometimes it's hard to spot money, or really good credit,so don't feel bad mikef. I've got a buddy who probably has 15 to 20gs just in the motor of his ultra. Not one penny on chrome. His moto, and many others "Chrome don't getya home,"
People like that have what they call sleepers, no need to advertise, but have a bike that will most likely smoke about anything on the road along with a 35mph burnout.
Me, I just enjoy the ride. I'm just happy to have something that has a button you push when you want it to start. LOL
It's nice to know the owner of the bar, just so you have a place to store your bike when you can't get it started.
One of the coolest things about truly hangin is the fact that no one really cares how much money someone hasin a scooter, just as long as it makes you happy,and if a person has to count the money or feel the necessity to tell how much it cost, man you're just in too big of a hurry.
You do have a great looking scoot. being part of the Fatboy family I am being biased. And I imagine with the wheels, bags, the convenience package windshield/sissy bar, stage I, hopefully dyno time,V&H BR pipes, tax, tags, title, assembly;
I cut 1,yes I do believe you are looking at a minimum of 30 grand.
