After being hit by a truck last week I can tell you the guard is a must. When I went to pick my bike up I was amazed. Not a scratch on the tank, grips, or bars, scraped up the lower primary area and of course back end is smashed. The bike actually slid along on the guard.

Totally personal preference here, but I do not like the look of engine guards in any shape or form, but wanted the protection, so I went with the black mustache which blends in and isn't nearly so obvious.

IMO the Deluxe is Nastalgic. I like the HD nastalgic guard.

Dang, talk about reviving a dead thread. I really like the looks of the HD Nastalgic guard but for some reason choose to go with a Lindby Linbar.

Ive got the standard engine guard, but then, Ive removed most of the nostalgic parts to the Deluxe. White walls are about all I have left, which will be gone when I need new rubber. Have to say I absolutely love having hwy pegs. Wouldnt ride without them anymore

If Ur leaning toward to Mustache because of the footrest, remember not all riders can reach them.

I also like the looks of the oval better.

First welcome to the forum! At least you were digging deep doing some research.

It's personal preference as you already mentioned, so best appearance is in the eye of the owner. Do some more looking around browsing through some pics and take your pick.

My choice was part #49004-00A because it is what I liked. I bought them through surdyke.com for much cheaper than offered through the actual HD site.

I was going to put pegs on them, but like Oct1949 mentioned, I'm not sure I could reach them with the way I have my bike setup and the way I ride back on my seat, with a 30" inseam.

I'm not sure either on the forward clearance with the mustache bars, if one day you went with a long floorboard. My Arlen Ness Retro boards are 18" long for example. Anyone with mustache bars run long boards? Just curious since we're on the topic.
