Saddleman bags look real nice and come at a nice price, but you get what you pay for. I had the Saddleman "Desperado" jumbo bag and it did not last one season. The back of the bag is made of cheap plastic and the twist fasteners broke off the plastic. I was holding the bags on with zip ties. I just got new bags from this company. The bags are real leather, much better quality and they seem like they will hold up a lot longer:
I once bought a set, took them out of the box and looked them over. Put them back in the box and sold 'em on eBay. Not a bad price, but they were really flimsy.
I've owned the big & small desperado versions over the past six years (until my new bike purchase) and have had the plastic replaced every 18 months or so. The manufacturer is on my way to work so it wasn't that big a deal for me but I would be concerned if in New York. The bags looked good and held alot but the plastic would brake at the mounting holes - and not due to excessive weight either as I made sure it was just lunch/light items and rotated between bags. Good people there however.
I had the Saddleman drifter slant ?
On my shadow for over 2 years , And they still look good !
I had no problems with them !
Here is a good pic of what they look like now . http://www.americanclassicmotors.net...spirit10k1.JPG
Thanks for all the replies. I may go ahead and take a chance on them in spite of some of the warnings. I usually don't ride with saddlebags but do some over night rides here and there so I thought they might serve me well under those conditions. I also will be installing a detachable rack for some type of Tour bag setup.

DON"T DO IT!!! I had the Desperado bags, too. What the dudes are telling you about the backs is true. My first one broke with only my leather jacket in it. Having the bag flop down while you're booking it at 80 ain't fun. The straps came unsewed and broke regularly. I modified the mounting system by adding a steel bracket inside the bag to distribute the stresses. All in all, they were a waste of my money, time, and resources. If you want a set of Desperado bags, I'll give you mine for the shipping costs.
I wouldn't put a set of Saddlemen bags on a Vespa!
If you gonna use the Easy brakets, (they work good, I used them before I got my bbreprodution bags). What ever bag you use with the easy brackets , they will work better if the back of the bag has a good hard back made for such brackets. I had mine on thick leather bags and had to make some homemade supports for the bags so they wouldnt sag so much, any way just make sure the backs of the bags are good n hard to wrk good with the easy brackets, you can check with easy brackets for bags designed for thier brackets.
