Ok, here is a sticky wickit
My wife, a heavier person is afraid of riding with me since she thinks that the bike will fall over backwards.
The gross weight on a softail is 1125. The bike (manual) says the bike weights ready to ride at 703 lbs. which leaves 422 lbs for rider and passenger. Now I weight 170, and that leaves 252 lbs for a passenger.
Do any of you ride with a passenger sometimes and what would you suggest about a passenger that may put you close to gross weight?
Now I know the rear shocks underneath the bike can be adjusted, but she isn't going to be riding all the time with me since she has her own bike and I don't want to be crawling under the bike all the time adjusting the suspension.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
Ron
I'm pushing 250 and wifey is.. well er ah um.. full figured. No problems at all riding 2 up on my heritage. by the way, I just got back from Sierra Vista HD and had my 10K service done. I bought the bike Jan 20th.. They just smile when they see the miles I rack up.
When \\;you have broken the retention nuts loose, marked the shocks to keep the turns even and adjusted the shocks the first time, it takes less then 5 minutes to adjust them each time after that.

on serious note... tell wifey its ok to be a thick girl and dont worry. shes probably embarrased about her weight and just worried (or wants you to say "naw babe... i like a woman with curves, and the bike can handle you just like i can... now give me a kiss (then smack her on her ample ***) and hit the mean streets in style!)
First, there is NO way the bike will fall over backwards. I have had a passenger over 250lbs on the back and I weigh close to 200 myself and no problems. Mine is even lowered and didn't bottom out. Try a few spins around the block and you'll see that it is not an issue.
I have a weight problem as well , plus we are in our 70's so need that is a problem. I toke a different route added car air shocks and add a large rear seat. see photo
