I have a setup, similar to 128auto's photo, installed on an '08 Heritage. \\; The PN for the 1.5" oil temp guage is 74513-04.
The sending unit plugs into a supplied "T" fitting that is inserted into the metal oil feed line running from the oil tank to the engine. \\; Not an easy install\\; contrary to the instructions, an inch of the oil line had to be removed to accomodate the "T". \\; The "T" is located under the tank where the oil line attaches to the tank.
In my case, the guage under reads by about 50 deg F in comparison to my analog dipstick guage.
I guess I could drill and tap the bottom of the tank for a sender. The tee thing strikes me as unsightly.
IMHO, that would be a better way to go. \\; You would at least get the oil tank temp, not the cooled temp in the feed line.
Yes, the tee thing is unsightly. There are rubber hoses on either side of the tee and they are held in place by four screw clamps.
The touring folks have a good solution. \\; In the touring bike oil pan there is what appears to be an extra drain plug which they tap the sensor into. \\; I could not find that option on my Heritage. \\; If you go to the touring forum you will see this discussed.

I have this "extra" plug. I have read that some folks have damage the case trying to get it out. I'll go check out the touring section.
