Has anyone installed the new HD oil temp gauge, rather than Wally's? Is there any benifit with HD's I see with the HD gauge you have to cut in to the oil lines.
Yes, installed the HD oil guage. But, installed the sensor in the oil pan. Just need a bushing adapter. Guage seems to work just fine. Can't see cutting into the oil lines - more potential for leaks. Besides that I have big fingers and knew I would have a heck of a time if I attempted it.
BTW - new 96 engine does not have the oil line cover - be interesting to see what the MoCo does for the 07 oil temp gauge.
I posted a tech tip on doing this install - look in the tech section forum.
Ditto NC. I put heatshrink around the connector at the oil pan to protect it from debris. What a dumb idea cutting the oil lines and tossing the cover!
Just put one in this past weekend, also used extra hole in oil pan with a bushing. Made jumpers so did not have to cut original plug connectors on back of air gauge. HD instructions just seem overboard but guess they want you to bring it to them. So far gauge works fine. Good luck!!
