I installed the dash mounted oil temp gauge in my street glide, I also have the oil dip stick temp gauge, I'm getting around 40 degrees higher temp from the dip stick that the dash mount gauge.. my question is which one is more accurate.. the only thing I know is to run the bike & install a thermometor in the oil tank to see if the dip stick is close,, any input.. oh the dash gauge runs around 220 while cruising the dip stick runs around 260+
They are both accurate. The dipstick area is just behind the cam chest which spits the oil into the pan just in front of the dipstick (hotter oil). The oil then is circulated through the oil pan baffle and to the front of the pan(oil is now cooler) to be picked up and circulated through the engine. I assume your gauge sensor is installed in the front of the oil pan.
Doesnt matter really, just know what's "normal" for your bike under normal conditions. When readings start to change from normal take note and especially in the case of temps increasing, use it as a guide for whether or not a problem is developing.
When (if ever) you get close to 300 is where you want to shut it down and let it cool off a bit.
hottest I've ever seen it was 285 that was during breakin, sounds high due to I was on the interstate in 6th gear moving about 80 the whole time pulled in for gas & was shocked.. after about 1k it seemed to cooloff some, cant explain but now I dont see it over 260 the dip stick.. guess its ok.. I'm tring to decide on pipes & then I'll install the heavy breather along with the tts,, that should richen it up a bit, & cool it down, I like the look of the bubs true duals, but dont want to lose the torqe, any input??

I have asked owners with oil temp gages on other posts here, when is the oil temp too hot and when would you shut the bike down.
You are the first to respond with a temp!
install was pretty easy,, getting to the gauge is the hardest part.. unless you want to remmove the radio & mounting brackets,, you dont have to do that but its a real pain working around it
