I like the sound and the simplicity of a carbed bike. Also, having had a computer go out on my 02 Road Glide at a cost of over $500, Ill take a carb anyday. I also think carbed bikes sound better and EFI. On a car, give me EFI, on a Harley...I'll take a carb!

Well said, Flash. I won't ever knock anyone for having EFI or carb. They both get the job done. I must admit, after ordering my Deluxe I started thinking maybe I should have ordered the EFI. I did research on the SERT and PCIII and even the FuelPak by V&H. Fact is, I wouldn't be afraid at all to hook up my lappy to any of those and play with the fuel params. One of my biggest arguements against EFI was how people get the knocking in the engine at higher temps. Looks like you can easily fix that with fuel settings in the SERT.

Like I said, one day I'm sure I will have an EFId HD. But that day hasn't come yet. [sm=badbadbad.gif]

It's also kind of cool to think that I'll be buying the last model year softail with a carb.

Okay.. this is a John Kerry flip-flop here, but I'm switching my order for the 06 FLSTN to an 06 FLSTNI.

Here's my reasons: Above all else, the biggest factor is the cold starts on the EFI models. After I got to see a cold start in person, I realize how much better this will be especially at 5:00 am when I leave for work. Then there's the news about HD replacing the 8Ëš injectors with 25Ëš injectors... that makes me feel better. And the rest of my reasoning came from simply getting educated about the SERT. For a few hundred dollars more, I'll have much better pinpoint control over my bikes fueling than I do with the rejets I'm used to doing.

So chalk up another mark for the EFI. I gotta go with technology this time. Thanks to all the knowledgable folks on here who guided me to the info I needed. Of course, the salesman is going to be pissed when I tell him. Oh well.

EFI was the only way to go for me.
Carburators, although still efficient, are archaic.
Tuning, although requires software, is much more precise and many more parameters are accessible.
Cold starts are effortless and simple.

My 03 Train came with EFI.... I would rather have a Carb as I'm not a big fan of computerized ignitions, especially when they break.

On the Plus side, it's a whole helluva lot better than the Linkert on my old Panhead (damn I miss that bike... 22 over springer.. but I don't miss the carb), and I don't have any problems with warmups or altitude changes. My Train runs the same weather I'm at sea level or 11,000 feet.

And Why does HD EFI suck? Is it because you don't understand it? Its far simpler than any carb and far more precise. I see an awful lot of posters saying carbs are simpler thats a very wrong statement. The EFi system has far fewer ports, tubes and parts than any carb made. And far less maintanance.
