I have an 08 Softail Custom. When I had my 04 Ultra Classic (it did not have a balanced motor) I put a hydraulic tensioner on the primary chain and it worked great. The engine was so much smoother and the friction zone was smoother, I really loved it. The dealer says that there is a tensioner in the&nbsp\\;softail now and I don't need to add one. I would imagine that is the stock tensioner he is talking about. Should I put the aftermarket tensioner in there? This is a 96 inch balanced motor so I don't know if I would really need it. It is pretty smooth and&nbsp\\;really doesn't viberate much at all.&nbsp\\;What do you think?

 

If I'm not mistaken, starting in 2007, they put the automatic tensioners in all motors.

 

07s and up come with automatic tensioners

 

Just had my Rocker C serviced and asked this same question. Service guy told me all 96ci motors come with auto tensioners and require no adjustment to them at all. He told me that when I push on the belt it should have about 3/4 inch play max. Enjoy the ride.

 

Hispeed, flyboy is talking about the primary chain, not the belt.&nbsp\\; If this is what your stealer is telling U, he is an idiot.
