Has any one experienced this. I have 05 anniv. fat boy, 95inch. The other day after first ride of the season, (about 35 miles) I noticed oil droplets under filter cover. So I removed the filter cover and filter and found oil in the throttle body. I also noticed part of the filter deteriorated. A freind of mine says he has heard some talk of this filter break down.
This is a pretty common problem if you have a SE or other high performance air filter on your bike. As said above, insure that you do not have too much oil.
If you are experiencing filter deteriotation I am guessing that you have A SE air filter with the blue rim on it. These have had a problem with coming apart. I think I heard HD was making them good with an updated filter element. You might want to check with the dealer.
K&N is also making a replacement element that is oil treated, and a better filter element that what you currently have.
Also one thing that seems to worsen this situation is the single tube vent that crosses over the intake and uses a single vent hose to vent both heads. The later SE units went to twin tubes which pretty much eliminated a lot of oil seeping into the air filter.
