Hey guys - I'm looking for some sort of speaker system to hook my Ipod up to. I'm just wondering what's out there and what's good and what's not so good.
I've seen the HD radio that you can buy / mount up in the handle bars but I'm not a big fan because of $$$ reasons.
I'm looking for a simple way to hook up my Ipod to some nice clean looking speakers. I've been considering building my own set but first want to look into options that are out there.
What I was planning on doing is hooking a good (cheap) set of tweeters up to a headphone jack and plugging that into my Ipod. The tweeters I would install in an old set of chrome turn signal housings that I would mount on the bars where the Risers are.
there's a member on here that has a windshield bag with an amp and speakers built in. he drilled speaker holes where he mounted the speakers.... then just plugs his iPod into a jack in the front of the windshield bag. pretty cool.
I'm about to rig up something similar. I'm installing an amp, earphone plug and a volume control in the console cover. I'm using a set of JBL pc speakers for most of the hardware.
I have the Two Wheels Tunes kit. The amp fits on the downtubes and the speakers are on the handlbars. Sounds great in town, but when you hit 50-55mph, it disappears. Just not enough oomph to overcome the road/bike noise.
That's what I'd be worried about - even buying an expensive sound system I've heard that happen. Including the HD brand one that mounts on your risers. It gets drowned out by exhaust sounds.
I have loud exhaust and want to be able to hear my tunes.
I have an 04 Fatboy with V&H Bigshots. I have been real happy with the sound. I can hear it fine at 70 mph wearing an 1/2 helmet. I do have a windshield.
The speakers are mounted in front of my handlebars pointing back towards me. They are down low so they are some what hidden. If you want some pics I can provide if you like.
I was a bit worried about it being loud enough too. I think I payed 125.00 for mine and figured it was worth a chance. I don't ride now with out my mp3!
If you come to VA I let you try it out if you want.
