I'm thinking of getting some throw over bags for my 08 Custom and would like some feeback. What kind did you get? Did you have to relocate the turn signals? Did you use a mounting bracket? Any concerns or solution on the bags rubbing the paint on the fender? Do you find the bags useful? I'd appreciate any kinda info you can give me.
Thanks,
Jim
I have an 07 custom. I really didn't care much for throw over bags because you still had to mount a bracket to keep them from rubbing. Plus you still have to account for the extra wide fender. If you look on the Harley web site or in their catalog they have bolt on bags that look good and hold enough to get the job done without buying a turn signal relocation kit. Two bolts per bag is all that's needed and use existing holes. I found mine on eBay for a fraction of what Harley wanted. Hope this helps.

Reason: mistake
I went to osprey saddlebags and got the "bull" bags. They were the biggest I could get for the FXSTC and the easy bracket mounting system. I also had to move my turn signals which was no big deal. The bags are great and I can haul enough stuff that they make since. If you are only going to carry a few things get some T-bags ( which I have and REALLY like ) or something similar.
I was wanting to put some throwover bags on my '08 custom, but overwhelmed/frustrated at selection and necessity of support brackets that I need, or might need. Maybe I just need to go with a sissybar bag??!?
My wife bought me the HD bags that are made for my 07 FXSTC and I love them as I think someone mentioned it's only 2 bolts per bag and they bolt right up to the existing fender support holes
They look like soft leathers but have a rigid plastic frame inside, they could be a little bigger I guess but If I need more room I throw on my sissy bar bag
Change out the factory hex head bolts for some stainless button head Allen's and they are a piece of cake to take on and off

For my 2009 FXSTC, i went with the saddle bags for the Cross Bones. I wanted the straight bag look vs. slant bag look. I did not have to have the rear turn signals relocated.
