Default Tach question for a FXSTC

I am looking to add a Tach to my bike. I am not interested in the speedo/tach, at least at this time. I am interested in the 2-5/8" H-D Mini Tach with Shift Light, H-D Part no. 69829-06

I have run into a couple of snags:
1) It specifically states in at least one listing that it fits '84-later FX Softail (except '07-later FXSTC). Listed in another place, it does not have this exception. ***Has anyone tried installing this on an '07-'08 FXSTC?***

2) I have the 1-1/4" Fat Mini Apes installed, with the wiring running internally and out the bottom-center of the bar. I also have the H-D 1-1/4" risers. They are solid chrome on top, since the clamp bolts run up through the bottom. Both of these mods really mess you up from using any of the traditional tach mount clamps. Any ideas?

I just looked it up and it only says 07 FLSTF..

Fits '96-'03 and '07-later XL Custom, '96-'08 FXDWG, '06 FXD35, '07-later FXDC, '84-later FX SoftailŽ, '86-later FL SoftailŽ (except '07-later FLSTF), and '94-later Road KingŽ models equipped with Mini Tach Mounting Bracket. Separate purchase of application specific Mounting Bracket and Gauge Housing is required.

If I use the on-line "shop by family- Softail", it shows up like you stated. If I look it up in the H-D .pdf parts catalog, it has the exception I noted. Also, If I sort by my year and bike, this tach doesn't show up as an accessory for my bike.

Still wondering if anyone has one or tried one?

Any tach will work on all bikes. It is just a matter of the hook-up. On older bikes (i.e '99 FXSTC) you had to run the pickup to the ignition coil for the signal. With later bikes, like yours, you tap into a logic plug under the seat. Shoot me an email at tnharley@comcast.net and I will send you the installation instructions for my 2" mini tach, which would have the same hookup as yours. I am not familiar however with the shift light...maybe you don't need that if the tach is what you are really looking for. Jerry

Aviscomi... was this Tach ever installed on your '08? If so, did you have any issues?
