Now I was just reading on here the other day and people were saying you can change your pipes and not anything else until you change the air cleaner then you need to re-map or add fuel management device. there was a whole thread about it..

The way I always understood it is you can change your slipons without doing a remap if you keep your stock air box. You change the whole pipe.. and you should remap. Same for a stage 1.

A remap from a dealer will run you around 150.00 dollars. I haven't checked that for a long time but a couple years ago that's what it was.

A power commander will run you around 300 dollars? I know I gotta be close anyway. The benefit there is Power Commander will most likely have a map for you to download and using your own computer you can load it into the unit that matches your configuration.

I have no clue about a fuel pack or even the sert. I like the PCIII because if I change anything I can change the map. Or just go get it dyno'd on it.

I would definitely do a stage 1 along with your pipes and if you want a recommendation for a fuel management system I would say a Power commander.

Thanks in advance!

Clay, there is a few ways to go about Remapping. I would highly recommend the Power Commander III over the VH Fuel Pack if the dealer is experiencing problems on 08/09 Models. I havent heard anything.

With that said, with the Power Commander//Air Intake Stage 1, you can either get it on a Dyno, or if you purchase a Power Commander from some of the vendors online like a lot of people do (cheaper and usually come with MAP), you dont have to get a Dyno. I purchased my Air Intake/Power Commander from http://www.cyclesolutionsonline.com/ and told them what I had VH SHortShots Staggered with their Power Commander/AN Big Sucker Stage 1 and they provided me a map (Plus a coupon for a free dyno at the big rallies they attend) already installed on it and have had no issues. Otherwise, dyno can run from $200-$400.

My advice and what i have always been told..If you change the exhaust, you will most likely want to change Air/Fuel Managment so it runs properly and dont have to worry. Although some dont, i think in the end, most people will end up doing it.

Original qoute from Harley for parts = $1500 plus install of $400 and get it on a Dyno $400.
Original Qoute from Private Shop= Parts/install/dyno $2100

Bought parts on-line, installed myself $890 (PowerCommander/ShortShots/Big Sucker), including shipping.

Perhaps but the posters question was what od we think of V&H recommendation. I think they made a good recommendation, but am saying he doesn't need to go with V&H for the other pieces of the recommendation. ie could use SERT, PCIII and could use really any Manufacturers High Flow Filter & Backplate.

power commander monitors constantly as you are running. remap is in bike computer and is a one time setting throughout entire power band . A power commander is a better option as you change it if you add something new and download new maps I believe that are constantly updated. A dealer remapp is a one time thing and if you have them do it, every time you change something a remapp has to be done. Thats the way I understand it.There are a lot of monitoring systems out there so research them well and definatly talk to someone who knows more than me. Sorry can't do more for you than that.

Well...Got my V&H Longshots today. Wow! She sounds like a Harley now! Ordered my SE air cleaner & Power Commander today & will have them in hand or should I say installed Wednesday!
Gonna ride for a little bit with the Longshots as sent to me but if it is too loud, I may be picking up the "quiet baffles" to quiet it down a touch. All in all, pretty friggin happy! Oh, did I mention how good looking these things are? Fit beautifully as well!

This may be costly but just purchase a power commander, air filter and get your bike dyno. By doing this you will increase performance on your bike make it breath more freely which in turn cause it to run lean.
