Changing bars with internal cables is work and may mean parts if the cables don't reach. I am considering the same question and have some beach bars in hand but can't pull the trigger yet due to the time commitment. Maybe this winter. (There is a big and growing list for this winter).

I'm looking at replaceing the bars now and I'm trying to decide between apes or beach bars. Has anyone else had this problem and how did you fix it? Also, I ride from Chattanooga Tn. to Panama city Fl. twice a year so this is main reason to look at finding more comfortable bars. Any thoughts or opinions would be appreciated. Thanks, -Eveready77
This solved the reach problem and shoulder pain for me. No cable changes and 20 min job for ~$40. These work for 1inch bars and not 1.25inch. 4.5" rise 1.5"pullback.

Crawdad,

When you switched out your bars, did you also change your risers? Did you swap them out to reach easier or was it more for hand placement? They look like the bars and configuration I was looking for, but I might try the Deluxe risers first and keep the stock Heritage bars.

The bighorns do look great on your bike though.
