Slow at work today, I decided to polish my wheels. I started with 320 grit wet sandpaper, little soapy water and elbow grease, followed by 400, 600, 800, 1200, 1500 and 2000 grit wet sand until I get mirror shine. Buff and polish with a Flitz ball and mother's aluminum polish, it looks brand new again. 2 hours of hard work is worth it LOL, I don't have time to do both wheels, did the front one, here are some pictures. I will do the back wheel when I changed my rubber next weekend.
Good job. I always wanted to do that to my stockers, but got lazy and the chrome rims instead. The are much easier to keep clean. Polish the back one, then buy some chrome ones...
hey you forgot to polish the center. i did the same thing to my rear mag. got the old buffing wheels and die grinder out and went at it. sure would of been nice if it were off the bike. ive heard if places that will polish the whole thing, what a major job that would be. a guy could do it but it would have to be sanded first then buff away, maybe after a week or so it would be done, at least by me.
No, I didn't forget.
To be honest, if I want the whole wheel mirror finish, I will spend the $$ for a complete wheel, that isn't my cup of tea. I like to leave the center as is, that's what I love, looks great with a little texture. No offense but I hate the look of smooth center, too big a piece of mirror lol, it is just me.
Looks really nice. I have always liked the look of those wheels and considered getting one (with chrome rim and hub only)for the back of my Custom. Cause I like the rivited look of the rim and the texture finished center. Trouble is they don't make the older solid version in the size I would need for my bike.
I do to, I just wish they had chromed it without putting the slots in it. Its a pain in the butt to keep it clean and shiny with the stock brake pads. I have a set of Lyndel pads. But when I got them I wasn't ready to put them on and now I can't remember where the hell I put them, "for safe keeping".
