I am 6' 1" tall and I can't believe the general population is comfortable with the standard reach of the stock bars on the 05 fatboy. For rides less than two hourz they are fine but after a four hour ride I am anything but comfortable.
I have seen numerous posts about pullback risers for the stock Fatboy handlebars but I really like the look of the Street Slammer Bars with integrated risers better than the stock bars.
My goal is to have the bars (whatever they are) 3 inches closer to me sitting on the bike. The parts guy at my HD dealer told me that the Street Slammer Bars would reach further back than the stock bars but when I look at the HD handlebar measurement specs I am not convinced this is true.
Part Number Tip to Tip Base Width Rise Pull Back
Stock Bars: 55958-01 31.5" 13.5" 5.5" 9"
Street Slammers: 56391-04 30.25" 9" 6.75"1 5.75"
I am looking for input from those of you who have switched to Street Slammers. Is the reach closer or further from you?
One other idea is to go with the "Swingback Handlebars"???
Well sir, mine aren't street slammers' just regular old poor man's T-bars. But I gotta say that I like the way they feel better than I do the ones that came on my bike by far.gotta do some more to make em look right, like the chrome controls but you know, one thing at a time unless the wife isn't lookin! All in all though, mine are a lot more comfortable than the originals
RE: Need Handle Bar Advice for 05 Fatboy and Question
I have a suggestion and a question. I found the same thing and wanted a bar with a bit more flair. My parts guy found that a Road King High bar would fit WITHOUT having to mess with cables or wires. We installed it and tilted it back a bit, PERFECT! The hight bar is CHROME and so it also removed the problem of that slightly brownish stainless color of the stock bar. NOW MY QUESTION: I want to wire through my handlebar and my service guru is saying I'd best get a Chubby bar that is ALREADY DRILLED rather than drill the Road King bar. WHICH CHUBBY (OR OTHER) BAR IS GOING TO BE CLOSEST TO THE ROAD KING HIGH BAR?
RE: Need Handle Bar Advice for 05 Fatboy and Question
I HAVE THE 12" CHUUBBY APES ON MY FAT BOY AND LOVE THEM.THEY ARE ALL PRE DRILLED FOR WIRING AND BY FAR BETTER QUALITY THAN OTHERS I LOOKED.THEY ALSO HAVE DIFF. SIZES
I THINK YOUR LOOKING FOR 10" THATS ABOUT ROAD KING SIZE.IF YOU GO TO THE WILD1INC.COM
WEBSITE THEY HAVE DIFFERNT PICS OF BARS ON ALL KINDS OF HARLEYS.GOOD LUCK.
P.S. MY 12" APES ARE NOT VERY HIGH UP AS YOU MIGHT THINK WITH STOCK 1 1/2" RISERS
AND I AM 6'2" TALL VERY COMFORTABLE FOR ME
