Default pipes

I would put the v&h pipes back on and put baffles in them, that will give you the in between sound you are looking for. V&H pipes are nice and you should use them if you paid for them---good luck with it---Cap

Have you thought about the Quiet Baffles that V&H offers for Longshots? They're wrapped in fiberglass batting, so it really tones 'em down. Gives it a nice deep, low rumble.

I switched out to quiet baffles, they sound good through the gears and you can hardly hear them at speed.

Depends which Longshots he's got. I've got the originals and they don't make the Quiet Baffles for them. If he's got the Longshots HS then the Quiet Baffles are available.

You can also try the new model Screamin Eagle slip-ons. They meet EPA standards for noise and they sound okay. They are just a little bit louder at idle and have a nice sound at cruising speed. If you romp on it they have a nice roar.

Ive got the same problem with my 2001 Heritage. I have Screaming Eagle2 slip ons and theyre a little lame.

On the other hand I have a buddy running longshots and you can hear him leaving my house 3 miles up the road ! You can hear him stop at the intersection up there,, than proceed for about another minute! How he doesnt get pulled over is beyond me and I refuse to ride behind him. He's a nut! Sounds good but really really loud.

I dont want the stress of getting pullled over all the time so I prefer not to go that loud.

My winter project plans are a mild cam ,PC, and some pipes.

Sound is all subjective, but have to say I'm not a huge fan of LOUD exhausts. Only got one pair of ears & I like to use 'em when I get off. All this tosh about loud pipes save lives - if it were true, Goldwingers would be dying by the bucketload!!

cycleshack or khrome works slip ons. sound good, mellow and deep. as a bonus, you will make more torque and horsepower and your bike will be easier to tune than with the longshots.

What's that?! Can't hear you?! Hang on, I'll shut off my bike.

OK, that's better. Mine are really loud too. The previous owner had the baffles cut in half, why, I don't know. Maybe to make it louder?! I'm replacing the chopped baffles for full size baffles this winter.

P.S. I haven't been pulled over yet but I don't want to be either. With the full baffles on it will still be very loud. I like that though and it's all I can do with these pipes. OK, can't chat anymore as I'm putting my earplugs in.
