I believe Arlen Ness makes a plate for the springer that allows the use of "standard width" risers. Might be worth looking into since you can save $ on bars as well as a larger selection. I had a black 04 FXSTS.
Yes. I did a conversion to an 18x5.5 wheel, using 06' specifications for parts. I kept the stock swingarm, and bought fender struts from www.customstruts.com. I basically only kept the swingarm, everything else was changed. I did the work myself, and think it was well worth it.

I had one of those plates when I got my springer forks setup...I ended up gettin rid of it because it just clutters up the top of the forks with extra bolts. didn't look right.
Not sure which brand mine are, they were on the bike when I bought it. At first look I thought they were the first thing I was going to change back to stock. After a test ride, and the riding it for 5k this summer I wouldn't think of changing them, they are more comfortable than anything I've been on before, and I do really like the look.
