V&H website used to have sound clips. If you do just the pipes for now, you will probably be ok...like others have said. If you get the pipes and then add an aftermarket richening device, you might be a little happier overall. When you want to step up and make more power to go with the sound, you will benefit from the addition of a hi-flow air cleaner and a good tune. I went with the T-Max Autotune system and a Arlen Ness Big Sucker air cleaner. I bought the stage 2 because I plan on going up in cubes and compression.

If you wanna upgrade the 88, the best bet is to go with the big bore kit. You can up-size your cylinders and pistons and port your heads. Your stroke will remain the same and you get 95 (or alittle more) ci's. Only then would you wanna increase stroke and only if you can't go bigger without increasing stroke (JMO)

I ran a Power Commander and a Hypercharger on my 05 Nightrain (same engine and drive as yours) with the BSS pipes and it ran very good. It was faster than every other internally stock HD that I ran with and could bury the 120 speedo. That was with no rev limit adjustment. The latest PC will (I think) allow you to up the rev limiter from 5800 to a true 6200. I say true because the stock 5800 rev limit starts pulling timing at 5200. You actually pick up 400 actual rpm of rev but you also get more power from 5200 on. Pretty cool.

Sorry, I'm trying to keep up here. I have an 02 Fatboy, fuel injected, with a Stage 1 kit that includes Screaming Eagle slipons, air cleaner, and program download. I would also like to add a set of V&H Big Shot Staggered pipes but thought I needed a Power Commander or similar product also. It sounds like I could add the pipes and that would be it. Is that correct. Thanks in advance.

the download is probably the same for screamin' eagle slip ons and the VH BSS. A PC III would be a better way to control fuel. The VH BSS really sound great with the quiet baffles it doesn't really quiet them.

Dozer, your engine is actually a step above my 05 because of the bearing that was used for the crank (left) side engine bearing. The power commander will give you the ability to tune your bike for any changes you make. The download is a non issue once you get the PC on there. You could try riding it after installing the BSS and watch the plugs and the tips of the pipes to see how it's running and then decide if you need the PC right now.

I did the SE intake, BSS pipes on mine back in September. I installed the PCIII with a canned map from Fuel Moto. I have since modified the timing map to address some pinging. It runs great with noticable power gain. My understanding is the stage one download from HD works for slip on pipes and the SE intake. Anything beyond that requires a fuel managment device. As was mentioned here the pipes and intake are pretty straight forward to install. The PCIII is a pain in the *** since there is little to no room for it. Good set of Craftsman tools with hex and torx sockets is a plus. Most cheap tools are...well...cheap.
