Default Wheel

My problem is I found out my wheel is an 07 but I already got a pulley for an 06. It goes on but to far in ,needs a spacer behind it. I think I'll just buy the spacer instead of 07 pulley. I just need to figure out how thick of a spacer I need?

got my wheel in finally!!! tire should be in next week. the wheel is an 18"x5.5" and it is laced with an 06 fxst style hub. it fits perfect on my 02!!! i will have to get a small spacer for the sprocket i want to use but the stock brake setup clears everything and it looks nasty!!! Cant wait to get it all together. Ill take some pics and post again when the tire comes in, if i can figure out how to insert pics...

Joshh,

Be sure to post pics. I can't wait to get mine on. But it looks like I'm gonna have to wait and see whats gonna happen with my job. I work on a drilling rig and the oil industry isn't looking good at all. They don't have another job lined up for my rig yet. And we'll finish up the well we're on this coming week.

Chop On,
Robert

From there, there's no lookin back!!! that sucks about your job, god forbid we start drilling more AMERICAN oil! i saw on the news that china and russia started drilling off the coast of cuba, but the tree huggers wont let us drill our own?!? i'm gonna stop cuz i get all pissed off & i dont get it... anyways, good luck with work man...

Hey Joshh. How's the rear wheel conversion coming along? Do you think that a 16" x 5.5" wheel would fit with the stock brake set up and clear everything? I already have one with a new metz 200 tire on it that's just laying around that was for another project. If you think it would clear everything, that would save me some money for now.

Thanks alot,
Robert

the conversion has been slow because i got tied up with some other projects. i did mount the tire and start to mock it up. i need to order a small sprocket spacer for better clearance. i could prob. get away without it but it'll be better with it. from how things look, a 16" wheel wouldnt work without a smaller differently placed caliper. i think some people have done it with a deuce setup and some spacers and brackets. i never looked into a 16" because i really wanted to get a low profile 18" look. hopefully ill get some time wrench time for it this weekend. ill keep u posted...

Cool. I just bought a 17" x 6" rim with pulley, brake rotor and tire with a little tread left from a '06 softail off ebay for $125.00, Now that gives me 2 rims from an '06, so I'll resale one of them. Now I need a 7/8" belt and a bracket for the brake caliper, and I'll have everything I think.
Just gonna need time to work on it.... Gotta be at the hospitol at 7:00am in morning so they can induce labor on my wife. Gonna have a baby girl, so that will take up any spare time I might have had. :-)

Keep me posted on progress,
Later,
Robert

Im hoping to join in with you guys on this whole project. So far I have a swingarm off an 06. On the hunt for the rest of the parts. Anyone have a list of everything that will be needed? Gotta love eBay.

I'm sure some one else will be able to tell you more than me. Do a search on the forum about this. There are a few different threads with some good info. I'll try to give you as much help as I can. I've bought all my stuff from ebay so far. Just don't be in a hurry and you can find some real good deals. Especially now, in these times.

You will need these parts from an '06 or newer. A 7/8" narrow belt and pulley. If you use a wide wheel from an '06 softail, you will need the pulley from a '06. Something about the spacing on the pulley is different. (At least that's what I've read on here.) Upper and lower belt guards. The plastic splash guard piece that goes under the fender in front of tire. the brake caliper, bracket and rotor. Spacers. Maybe an axle. Or change the bearings in the wheel to fit your axle. Depending on what year wheel you get. The '06 wheel uses 3/4" axle bearings. I think the '07 and '08 use a 1". You will also have to cut the fender/frame horns off and replace the fender. Either with a strutless fender or get the fender and struts from a '06 or newer softail. you will have to do something about your seat too, depending on which route you take with the fender. I bought a fender and struts from a newer Night Train. I wanted the stock fender so I can get a luggage rack to put on when we go off on trips. I'm not for sure what all I'll have to do to make this fender work but i'll find out pretty soon. It's gonna be trial and error for me.

Honestly, if I didn't have most of the parts already, I'd probably get a 18"x5.5" rim with the correct hub and spacing and put a 180 on it. Look around on here, there are a few peeps with this set up and it looks cool. It's just not quiet as wide as the 200. BUT it's a lot less work! You can run your stock belt and pulley and brake set up. And stock swingarm.

Chop On,
Robert
