I haven't taken the fender off and really looked at everything yet, but That is kinda what I had in mind, about welding the frame horns back on where ever they needed to be. Just for the extra support mostly.
I read somewhere that the newer belts are stronger than the older ones even though they aren't as wide. Hope that's true. A chain would definately be easier to fix. But it's kinda nice to have the belt. It's alot quieter than a chain.
Can't wait to see your bike when you get it done.
my thoughts exactly on the belt. my buddy has a tuned up 06 with narrow belt and he rides hard. he bought the bike new and still hasnt had to even adjust it after first dealer sevice. i have another friend who had to switch to a chain because he stipped the teeth off of 2 belts in 1 season, but he has a seriously built custom that keeps up with croch rockets up to 100 and was using old style belts... we'll see. hopefully i'll get the bike done soon because spring is coming fast... if i burn 1 belt, i'll chain it up...
I hear ya. I'm gonna try the belt first too. I hate to have the down time to put this stuff on. I'm scared I'll run into some problem and then be down for a while. That's just my luck!
It was and has been in the high 60's and low 70's most of the week here. Great riding weather!
Why does it seem so hard to find a solid black wheel?
What kind of back wheel are you looking for? I've got an extra softail 17"X6". It's not completely solid, it has 8 holes in the center part of it. Let me know if that's what you are needing.
that kind of weather must be nice... it's 31 right now and windy as hell. but aound here this is considered a nice day because its sunny... more snow supposedly coming next week. there is so much salt and sand on our roads i wouldnt take the bike out if it were 80 right now. guess thats why ive been draggin *** getting this project wrapped up. if its finished, i'll want to ride. i bumped into a few friends i like to ride with the other night and we all started talking about planning a winter trip next year with the bikes to scratch the itch... we'll see... anyway, my parts are supposed to be in next week, so i'll post some more pics of any progress...
Me and a few friends have been trying to plan a trip to the Ozark mountains in Arkansas for a while now. It's hard for everyone to get together at the same time, with the different work schedules we all have.
Looking forward to pics.
riding in new england in the fall is pretty awesome. but a short riding season around here makes us wanna head somewhere warm in the winter that would be nice to ride... thinking maybe south carolina coast where we can really **** off the snow bird golfers... waiting on parts but more pics coming soon, hopefully...
I've always wanted to come up there to that part of the country in the fall. Only seen pics and it looks real nice. I bought a badass looking ground up custom build with a honda engine on it a couple of years ago from a guy in Randolph, Mass.
I guess I'm lucky as far as not having real hard winters here. We don't have to "winterize" our bikes. Can pretty much ride year round...
